Frequently Asked Questions

Here are examples of Frequently Asked Questions to help you better understand our program:

Registration Questions:

When can I register for classes?
Anytime! Call the DACA Swim School office at 408-446-5600 or stop by and speak with our receptionists.

How often are lessons and what is the duration?
Our swim lessons are once a week for a half hour.

How much does it cost?

Lessons are $68.50 per month/per child. Classes joined in the middle of the month will be prorated.

How long is the session?
We no longer have sessions. We now have a perpetual billing system so classes will continue indefinitely until you decide to stop lessons.

What is your schedule of classes?
We do not have a set schedule of classes because they are constantly evolving with our students. Monday through Friday we offer classes from 6:30 AM to 9:00 PM. Saturday and Sunday we offer classes from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. To inquire about a class time that will work best for you contact the office at 408-446-5600.

Can I change my class to a different day and/or time?
Absolutely. As long as we have availability in the appropriate level, we are happy to transfer your child to a different class or time. Please keep in mind that consistency plays a key role in development and it may take a few classes for your child to adjust to the rhythm and routine of the new instructor and/or class.

How do I cancel a class?
In order to cancel a class for you or your child you must fill out a Withdrawal Form located under the 'Forms' link. Withdrawals must be received no later than the 15th of the month you intend to stop lessons. Submitting a withdrawal form past this date results in a charge for the upcoming month.

Do I need to sign in?
We ask that you do sign in at the front desk every time you attend class. This is our record of attendence.

Swim Lesson Questions:

How early can my child start lessons?
DACA swim school offers lessons for children beginning at 3 months of age. These are called Waterbaby classes in which a parent is in the water particpating with the child. We find that children who begin swim classes before they reach 1 year of age generally accept the water more readily than older children.

How quickly will my child learn to swim?
There are many factors that determine how quickly your child will learn to swim, including the child's developmental stage, any previous experience in and around the water, as well as the child's ability to adjust to a new environment. Please be patient in your child's learning process as it is normal for your child to have up's and down's. With proper instruction and continual support every child can ultimately learn to swim successfully.

What do we need to bring to class?
Your child needs to attend class with a pair of goggles. If your child has long hair, we ask that you tie it back in a ponytail or wear a swim cap. For your convenience, we have both goggles and caps available for purchase in our office. Children in Waterbaby and Transition classes are required to wear a reusable cloth swim diaper which are also available for purchase in our office.

What if my child is not feeling well?
If your child has a cold, but is eating well and acting as normal, you may bring them to class. Please do not bring a child who has a fever, is not eating, or shows signs of bacterial infection.

Do you offer make-ups or credit for a missed class?
We do not offer refunds, credits, or make-ups for missed classes. If your child is unable to attend, we look forward to seeing them at the next scheduled lesson. We ask that you do your best to regularly bring your child to swim lessons.

When is my child going to get their next ribbon?
The intstructor administers the evaluation but if you would like your child to be evalutated that can be done through the Deck Supervisor. If you ever have any questions or comments for your student's teacher please speak with the Deck Supervisor. A "Parent-Instructor Communication Form" is available upon request as instructors are not allowed to converse with parents while they are teaching classes.

Does everyone need to shower before they get in?
Yes. In an effort to ensure the sanitation and cleanliness of our new facility we ask that anyone who will be getting in the pool rinse off in the showers beforehand. Unless you have been directed by a doctor; sun guards, band aids, and Vaseline are not to be used as they all come off in the pool.

Where should I sit?
Once your child has entered the pool please proceed to any of the provided chairs. For safety reasons we cannot allow customers to stand or sit in the walkway in front of the big windows blocking walkways, exits, or fire extinguishers/safety equipment.

Other Helpful Tips:

Please do not feed your child immediately before class.

Do not bring your child to class if they have diarrhea or a fever.

For safety reasons we may not have students in the pool without their instructor present and/or any other time before or after the half hour that they are a registered student.
