| Our Program |
|
Philosophy:
Our program is based on layers and repetition, an approach which we believe maximies a child's ability to learn and retain new skills. We start with the simple basics, and once those skills have been mastered, we add progressively more challenging, but related skills. Each level is related to the level before it and the level after it.
Frequency:
- Lessons are 29 minutes in duration
- Classes meet once a week. Additional classes may be purchased if you desire more than one lesson a week.
- Lessons are ongoing and are year-round. Taking once a week lessons, year-round maximizes a child's ability to retain the skills they have learned and best prepares them to learn progressively more advanced skills. Over the long term, students who take lessons in such a program will enjoy a steadier and more solid development in their swimming skills and are likely to become happier, more confident swimmers.
Format:
- Water Babies - Lessons consist of songs, games, and an introduction to basic swimming skills. A parent must attend all classes with the student.
- Children – Lessons are divided into three sections called Past, Present, and Future. Past allows the students to warm up using a simple skill. Present focuses on the particular skills of the child's level. Future introduces children to a more challenging skill. At the end of the lessons, students usually engage in a “Fun Time” activity so that they leave with a positive outlook on the class.
- Adults – Lessons are student driven. The instructor will work with the student on what the individual would like to learn.
Content:
- Water Babies – The content focuses on instilling comfort in the water, introducing basic swimming skills, and teaching parents how to interact with their children in the water.
- Children – Our graded program assigns each child a “Ribbon Level” which defines their skill level. The colored ribbons awarded when the student moves to the next level are indicative of a series of goals, or skills the child will be working on during the majority of their class. Once the student earns a ribbon, they will be working on the set of skills required to earn the next ribbon.
- Adults – All skill levels from beginning to advanced are able to work with an instructor and decide what skill is right for them to work on during lessons. These classes have content that is very individually-driven.
