does it any better!

- Shayne Fleming Selected to 2006 Zone Select Camp
Shayne Fleming has been selected for the 2006
Zone Select Camp. Twenty-eight male and twenty-eight
female athletes were selected in each of the four Zones.
The fastest swimmer in each Zone in each Olympic event (excluding
the 50 free, including the 800 and 1500 for both genders)
were invited. Additionally 15 girls and 15 boys were
selected based on IMX point scores. Shayne will attend
the 3 day camp at The University of Utah in May 2006.

University Richard Quick Instructional Videos
Two DACA swimmers are featured in Coach Richard Quick's
new instructional videos. Vivian Wong in Tammy's Gold
Girls Group & Steven Chien in Tori's Gold Boys Group
were featured in Richard Quick's new instructional videos
due out later this year. Vivian and Steven served
as the demonstrators of drills and proper swimming technique.

Swimmers Shine at High School CCS Championships
Highlights from the 2005 High School CCS Championships.
The women led the way with 1st, 2nd & 3rd place finishes
in the 200 I.M., 1st & 2nd in the 100 Fly and 1st &
2nd in the 100 Back. 4 out of 6 winning relays for
women and men had at least 1 DACA swimmer on the relay.
The National Group combined for an outstanding 16 lifetime
best times.

Pacific Swimming's 10 & Under Short Course Championships,
held on April 30th in Salinas.

Western Team Champions!
DACA successfully defended the title as Team
Champions at the 2005 Short Course Far Western Championships.
DACA finished with 677.5 points and a close race for 2nd
place between Sierra Marlins and NOVA of Virginia finishing
with 360 and 359.5 points respectively. PASA finished
in 4th and Santa Clara in 5th place.

Long Time DACA Swimmers Finish Collegiate Careers in Style
Two long time DACA swimmers, Loni Burton and
Marie Marsman, finished their collegiate swimming careers
in style at their NCAA Championships. Loni Burton,
a senior at Cal State Bakersfield, competed at the NCAA
Division II Swimming Championships while Marie Marsman,
a senior at Carlton College, competed at the NCAA Division
III Swimming Championships.

Adam Hinshaw Breaks Pacific Swimming Record
Adam Hinshaw broke the Pacific Swimming Record
in the 11-12 boys 1000 Free at the Junior Olympics in San
Ramon on March 12th. Adam went 10:28.89 breaking the
previous record of 10:32.66 by nearly 4 seconds which was
set in December 2004 by Gregory Harper of Walnut Creek.

DACA's National Team Finishes 4th in Texas
DACA's National Team finished in 4th place
in the team standings at the American Short Course Championships
in Austin, Texas March 3-6th, 2005. 1st place was
Texas Aquatics, 2nd place was Terrapins, and 3rd place was
Pilot of Knoxville.
New National qualifying marks were achieved
by Nilasha Ghosh in the 200 Fly, 200 I.M. and 400 I.M. and
Jamie Martinez in the 200 Back. Three DACA relays
achieved new National qualifying marks, the 400 Free relay
of Jamie Martinez, Nilasha Ghosh, Michelle Liu & Roshan
Mehdizadeh, the 'A' 400 Medley relay of Jamie Martinez,
Jennifer Gong, Amber Hovey & Nilasha Ghosh and the 'B'
Medley relay of Michelle Liu, Danielle Gong, Hayes Hyde

Collegiate Swimmers Excel at PAC-10 Championships
The championship collegiate swim season is
upon us and DACA swimmers competing for various colleges
and universities are making their presence known.
At the PAC-10 Championships in Seattle, WA
held February 23-26, 2005, DACA swimmers are currently swimming
for Arizona State University and Stanford University.
Heidi Schmidt (Junior) representing Arizona
State University finished 3rd in 100 Breast (behind two
2004 Olympians in the 100 Breast), 3rd in 200 Free Relay,
11th in 200 Breast and 21st in 200 I.M. Teammate at
ASU, Abra Armour (Sophomore) finished 21st in the 100 Free.
Erica Liu (Freshman) representing Stanford
University finished 2nd in 200 Free Relay, 2nd in 400 Free
Relay, 7th in 100 Breast, 9th in 200 I.M. and 14th in 200
Breast. Stanford went on the claim the team title
as PAC-10 Champions and Arizona State placed 6th.

- Zone 1-North Zone All-Star Team Announced
The following DACA swimmers have been selected
to the Zone 1-North All-Star Team which will compete on
March 6th in the All-Star Meet against the other Zones of
Pacific Swimming. Swimmers who have participated in
Western Zones or Quad Team are not allowed to compete in
the Zone All-Star Team. DACA swimmers account for
24 out of 64 swimmers on the All-Star Team.

DACA dominated at the Zone 1-Noth Championships held January
29th & 30th at Gunderson High School. DACA's combined
efforts lead to a team victory over PASA in the Combined
Team category by just 95 points. DACA's 12 & unders
handily took the Younger division title by nearly 1,300
points over 2nd place PASA. In the Older division
title, PASA won by 1,200 points to DACA's 2nd place finish.

- 10 & Under Boys Break Pacific Swimming Relay Record
At the Zone 1-Noth Championships, held January
29th & 30th at Gunderson High School, the 10 & Under
Boys relay team smashed the Pacific Swimming Record by nearly
2 seconds. The 200 medley relay team of Kevin Khojasteh,
Brandon Conroy, A.J. Zavala and Michael Leung went 2:03.63

Memorial Senior Invitational, January 15th-17th, included

- DACA's National Team Takes 6th Place at U.S. Open
The 2004 U.S. Open was held Dec. 2-4 in San
Antonio, Texas. This meet is the first major United States
competition of the 2008 Olympic quadrennial. Approximately
465 swimmers from six countries competed in the U.S. Open
this year. DACA took a team of five ladies to represent
DACA and their combined efforts led DACA to 6th Place
in the Women's Team Division.

Olympics!
Pacific Swimming's Age Group Junior Olympic
Championships were held in Pacific on December 3rd-5th,
2005. DACA's Age Group swimmers dominated the competition
taking the 1st Place Team Title and more than doubling
the point total of 2nd Place Team Terrapins and 3rd Place
Team Walnut Creek.

- Adam Hinshaw breaks Pacific Swimming Record!
There was plenty of records action in the
11-12 boys distance freestyle events at Junior Olympics.
Both DACA's Adam Himshaw and the Aquabears' Gregory Harper
broke the existing 1000 and 1650 free records, but Gregory
touched first in the 1000, with a 10.32.66, and Adam had
the faster swim in the 1650, with a 17.30.21. Follow this

Breaks Another Pacific Swimming Record!
Shayne Fleming broke the 11-12 boys 50 backstroke Pacific
Swimming record at the Sunnyvale Swim Meet. Shayne
went 26.85 breaking the old record of 26.94 set back in
1992. Shayne now owns the short course Pacific Swimming
Records in the 11-12 Boys 50 & 100 Free, 50, 100 &
200 Back, 400 I.M. and is a relay member of the 200 Free
and 400 medley relays set last year by DACA.

Fleming Breaks Four Pacific Swimming Records!
In the first record-breaking swims of the September 2004-August
2005 record year in Pacific, DACA's Shayne Fleming took
down four 11-12 boys Pacific short course records at the
Santa Clara Junior+ meet. Fleming swam a 22.70 in the 50
free, 56.16 in the 100 back, 1:58.22 in the 200 back, and
a 4:30.08 in the 400 IM.

Announces the 2003-2004 Scholastic All America Team
Congratulations to Amber Hovey and Michelle
Liu for earning a spot on USA Swimming's 2003-2004 Scholastic
All America Team. The Scholastic All-America Team
is comprised of high school student-athletes, who have a
grade point average of 3.5 or higher, and have competed
in an individual event in the 2003 ConocoPhillips Summer
Nationals, 2003 Summer Speedo Champions Series (sectionals),
2003 U.S. Open, 2004 ConocoPhillips Spring Nationals, 2004
Spring Speedo Champions Series (sectionals), 2003 National
Disability Championships and 2003 Open Water National Championships.
September 20, 2004 - DACA Swimmers
and Coaches Compete in Local Open Water Competitions
On September 18th over 200 swimmers braved the San Francisco
Bay waters for the 2nd Annual Alcatraz 100 "Swim of
the Centurions." This race was 1.2 miles from
Alcatraz to Aquatic Park in San Francisco. DACA was
represented by Coach Marcelo Castro who placed 17th in the
male non-wetsuit division with a time of 38:45.
On September 19th over 850 swimmers hit the San Francisco
Bay for the RCP Tiburon Mile. Swimmers and swimming
fans have converged in the Town of Tiburon to participate
in one of the most competitive and prestigious open water
swims in the world - the RCP Tiburon Mile. Athletes swim
one nautical mile from San Francisco Bay's Angel Island
to the shores of Downtown Tiburon. They compete in one of
several divisions including Elite, Age Group and Wet Suit
- all vying for cash and prizes. Participating swimmers
include Olympic and World Champion swimmers from the USA,
Russia, Australia, South Africa, Brazil, Mexico and Germany.
Also competing in this world class event are national and
local pool and open water swimmers, as well as collegiate
swimmers. DACA was well represented 4 former DACA
swimmers who now compete for their respective colleges and
1 DACA coach.

The All-America Team is comprised of swimmers who equaled
or bettered the faster eighth-place time from either the
spring or summer 2003 ConocoPhillips National Swimming Championships,
while competing in the spring or summer 2004 ConocoPhillips
National Swimming Championships. DACA's Erica Liu,
who begins her freshman year at Stanford University this
Fall, was named to the team in the 100 and 200 Breaststrokes.

DACA sent a large contingency of swimmers to represent
Pacific Swimming and DACA at the Western Zone Championships.

Pacific team places 2nd at Western Zones --
Led by the 9-10 and 11-12 boys and bolstered by depth in
the relays, Pacific's Western Zone team took 2nd place at
Western Zones last week. The California LSC Teams ruled
the meet with Pacific scored 1364 points, trailing Southern
California, who scored 1764 points, and ahead of third and
fourth place teams Sierra Nevada and San Diego-Imperial
respectively.
Winning big for Pacific were DACA's Adam Hinshaw, who took
six events in the 10 & under boys, winning both backstrokes,
the 50, 100, and 200 free, and the 200 IM, and his teammate
Shayne Fleming, who won five events, the 50 and 100 back,
the 50 and 100 free, and the 200 IM in the 11-12 boys age
group. DACA's Shotaro Ban also was a multiple winner taking
both butterfly events in the 10 & under boys.
One Pacific relay team set an Pacific All-Star relay record
at the meet: Pacific's 13-14 boys 200 meter free relay team
of Sasha Simenstadof NAPA, James Thivierge of PASA, Sean
Reilly of TERA and Kevin Parizi of DACA swam a 1:41.48 to
take down the old record.

Pacific Swimming Records at Western Zones: DACA's Adam Hinshaw
lowered his Pacific and National Age Group Record in the
10 & under 200 meter free record with a 2:12.18 and
his DACA teammate Shayne Fleming broke his own Pacific Swimming
Record in the 11-12 boys 50 meter free with a 26.08.
August 25, 2004 - DACA Finishes
in Top 10 at Summer Nationals
The ConocoPhillips National Championships were held at
Stanford University August 3rd-7th, 2004. DACA's National
Team finished their long course season with several great
swims.
DACA was the 10th Place Combined Team and 11th Place
Womens Team.

Repeats as Far Western Team Champions
DACA finished the 2004 long course season in commanding
style at the Far Western Championships held in San Jose
on July 28th - August 1st, 2004.
DACA took the Team Champion title for the second straight
Far Western Championships, winning both short course and
long course titles in 2004. DACA started out strong
in the team standings then really turned it on the final
two days of competition building their lead finishing with
1,329 points, 152.5 points ahead of 2nd place Palo Alto
Stanford Aquatics with 1,176.5 and 3rd place
Walnut Creek with 688 points.
Major Highlights:
- DACA swimmers broke 3 National Age Group Records:
2 individual records and 1 relay record
- Adam Hinshaw - 2:14.42 in the 10 & under boys
200 Free breaking the old record of 2:14.94 from 1984.
- Adam Hinshaw - 4:36.22 in the 10 & under boys
400 Free breaking the old record of 4:41.92 from 2003.
- 10 & Under Boys 200 Medley Relay of Ian Yuh,
Brandon Conroy, Shotaro Ban & Adam Hinshaw went
2:19.05 smashing the record set by North Baltimore
Aquatics of 2:20.32 in 1991!
